Introduction
In Part I of this two-part article I want to cover a number of areas where adjustments are in its IT business operations in 2009. There is no doubt that 2009 will be a difficult year for business. You can enter the New Year with one of two ways of thinking, "We will stay the course and hope for the best" or "We in this economy as an opportunity to reinvent ourselves in a competing thin, lightweight, flexible, in our market. "My goal is that you see 2009 as a moment of opportunity to find ways to do the same or more with less. Make 2009 the year that the use of IT for make your company a lean, agile competitor in the market.
How many users who provide services for 2009? – It is very important monitor the work of the executive management to estimate the services of his department will bring in 2009. Avoid overreacting to the current economic slowdown and arbitrarily reducing IT staff without serious consideration of the costs involved in hiring replacements later. Replacement staff later experienced costs more to have retained the original staff. The layoffs are a last resort. Use them sparingly.
What contingencies are there to fill the gaps? – If you already have reduced their workforce and suddenly find their skills gaps, is a form of filled with contractors. Just be sure to handle them carefully and avoid situations where their contractor time is misused. Make sure everyone in your organization understands that contractors are there for specific purposes. Keep your contractors on the job so they can perform their work completed quickly otherwise the cost a contractor can quickly exceed the salary and allowances of staff of the original are to fill.
What initiatives and projects going ahead with the 2009? – Consider the needs of their business and think in terms of rapid deployment. Any initiative that has over a quarter may be necessary to return to evaluate and set aside until the time when your bank allows the creation of a long-term strategy again. At this point, the sooner you can get a project completed and in production before your company can leverage its benefits. 2009 will be on the company are ready to take advantage of its market and if your company is ready to act when the time is right.
Dam Its bandwidth – Make sure your business is first, ahead to provide access to audio and video streaming, online shopping, etc. In the past I have had clients ask me to solve a "slow" network was not rather than excessive Internet traffic. In one case, there were 16 users with live steam NYSE, users of 12 other films trying to listen to long-term and 3 players online, all pulling on a single T1. However difficult it is to limit Internet access to staff, reducing the use of personnel for short periods after the date of production is a more reasonable solution.
How flexible is your network? – Now is a good time to look at the flexibility of its network infrastructure. Always a good idea to have ready a migration plan that can handle issues such as changing ISP, relocation its headquarters, adding a satellite office, or spinning off a division. Staying ahead of the game for preparing contingency plans with sufficient basic advance. Keep lines of communication with executive management wide so you can anticipate change and prepare to adapt quickly and professionally in 2009.
Restock your website – Enjoy the New Year by updating your company web site for show the world that the organization is going in 2009 with a fresh new look and a positive attitude. Thereafter, be sure to keep everything in its new company website and informative. Create new reasons for people to want to revisit your site often. Installation links to their latest industries or any other link take their current and future customers back to your site to see what is in development. Use the power of the press release to your advantage with the announcement of all that goes positive in your company. In 2009, you will have to find new ways to maintain its market focused on your business.
