I have had the opportunity to use Office 2010 Beta edition of a couple of months and now that I see the full, final edition, I can say that this is an upgrade worth the penalty, unless or Publisher. First things first, I am not a techie. I am a person who uses Word, Excel and PowerPoint on a very regular, to have found some changes in Office 2007 but I thought I needed to tweak some things, so when given the opportunity for the beta I jumped on it and have not been disappointed. Office 2010 to Office 2007 is what Windows 7 is Windows Vista, ie there is no progress many features radically different, but a lot of polishing and cleaning to make it easier and more efficient. In general, the program seems to run faster, incorporates many of the most used options and makes them more accessible (the elimination many dialog boxes and tabs) and allows for greater customization.

At first glance it looks a lot like its predecessor, the tape is back and now also found in OneNote. There are plenty of sites that will give a play-by-play all the features available in this new version, so only I will mention some of the biggest improvements I've seen.

Improvements:
1) The biggest change is the addition of web applications. It may not be true direct competitor to Google Docs, but allows easy distribution of documents as well as making your documents more accessible.
2) The tape is back and now includes the "File" option and a new feature called "Backstage view." View Backstage incorporates commonly used actions in one place (Yay! Without dialog boxes with more chips). You get the usual open, save and print, but you also get several templates for new documents, designs forms of print and share your work, all without dialog boxes and tabs, everything is much more accessible.
3) Another new feature is the tape is now customizable so you can plan according to your needs.
4) Paste is a sign that lets you switch between paste options so you can make that their work is properly formatted.

Negatives:
1) Publisher does not add enough to pay for the Professional version is worth it. No doubt all eyes, but the most useful tools are missing.

Changes in PowerPoint.
You can now edit video directly in PowerPoint. You can trim video, add effects, fades, and even triggers animations for the presentation. Another new feature is that you can add effects and edit images without third party software.

Changes in Word.
A great new feature in Word is called "panel exploration ", which replaces the old paper map. incorporates minor changes in design that make great changes in productivity and ease of use. It allows you to rearrange document quickly. Take for example a document with multiple headings and sections. The navigation pane provides a list of all lines. The titles are live so you can drag up or down, which reorganize the document. It also incorporates most of the functions that used to be available in the section "Find" dialog box, but now all are visible so you do not have to go digging through menus to find the option you need.

The changes in Excel.
Most of the changes in Excel deal with very large data sets. PowerPivot There is a new add-on that works very well if it is a set very large data that does not fit in one Excel spreadsheet. PowerPivot extracts data from multiple sources (multiple Excel spreadsheets for example) for testing.

The changes in Outlook.
There is a tape, and this makes for a great improvement. You can enable long threads of email conversations so you can find information of one player without having to read the whole thread. You can also filter out or ignore all the discussions on a particular topic, including emails in the future. Be careful though, without knowing it, you can delete important messages in the future because they have the same title as a conversation subject ignored in the past.

Changes to the editor.
The program at least better. There are some new templates and the tape makes you see all these tools easy, however, some of the best tools image the rest of the office is gone. There are many styles of photo, as there is in Word or PowerPoint, not a tool of artistic effects (such as congestion color or tone controls) and has no background removal tool.

Abstract:
Overall, except for Publisher, is a well-planned and executed update that essentially has all the promises of Office 2007 and becomes a reality. Yes, some things are different, and it will take some getting used to, but once you realize the efficiency gains that you will agree that changes are mostly positive. Unless you actually use Editorial much, you're probably better away from home and Business version.
